BC RAIL; Hawker Siddley 52'-6" welded Gondolas
PGE (PACIFIC GREAT EASTERN) purchased the first 20 all welded gondolas in 1966 from Hawker Siddley, numbered 9301 to 9320, painted mineral brown. They were identical to an order from CP Rail.

In 1971 PGE purchased another series of 50 gondolas from Hawker Siddley, numbered 9321 to 9370. They looked the same, except the ends were constructed different, this ones showed three bars across, the previous series had flat ends. They were painted green.
To keep up with demand the railway bought another series of 50 cars from Hawker Siddley in 1972, numbered 9251 to 9300. By this time PGE was renamed British Columbia Railway. They were painted dark green and had the dogwood logo on a plate.
Originally most cars had brackets on the corners and tie downs to clamp down fibre glass covers. This group of cars were assigned to copper ore service between Vancouver Wharves and Gibraltar Mines, by Williams Lake. The assigned cars changed over the years, so did the cover types and colors. Some PGE cars were repainted and received the dogwood logo but without the plate.
In the late 80's many received the new BC RAIL logos and new paint jobs. There are many varieties, it would be difficult to describe them all. The cars of the first series have been scrapped now but many of the other ones remain in service. Gibraltar Mines closed down in the late 90's and the covered gons at the head end of the trains disappeared. From about 1996 on, some have been renumbered into the 310000 series, indicating they are to be used in company service only.
